17. Exterior, Bronze Doors

Bronze Door
By exiting to the front plaza, you can begin to appreciate the splendor and message that the cathedral presents to the world. Between the main doors, Jesus beckons all to come close to his Sacred Heart. The bronze doors, executed in Rome, display in relief Christ and Mary seated in glory, the four Evangelists, and Patriarchs and Prophets: Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. The granite medallions above the main doorway include images of Christ's love shown in miraculous healings, and at the top the revelation of his Sacred Heart to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque.
